Health authorities in Abu Dhabi have specified four categories of residents who can opt for a saliva test instead of the nasal one to detect Covid-19.
These are:
>> Children aged below 12 years.
>> Those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
>> Some in-patients.
>> The elderly.
Doctors and officials at Covid-19 testing centres said saliva testing is a reliable alternative to detecting the virus and is less invasive.
Collecting samples also becomes easier, they said.
Saliva samples are more reliable to detect the virus in the early stages.
