Flouting Covid-19 restrictions and hosting a wedding ceremony proved fatal for a family in India's Bihar as the bridegroom died two days later and over 100 tested positive for the contagion.
The wedding turned into a virus spreader as over 350 guests attended the wedding of a man who was reportedly unwell and his condition deteriorated during the ceremony. According to reports in NDTV, the bridegroom died a day after his wedding on June 15 but his family cremated his body before samples for coronavirus test could be taken.
It is reported that the groom, who was an engineer based in Gurgaon, drove down for his wedding in Patna in spite of being unwell as his family coerced him to take medicines and go ahead with the rituals. He had been treated at a Patna hospital for diarrhoea, a Covid-19 symptom.
After the groom's death, some of his relatives developed Covid-19 symptoms and their samples returned positive for the virus. Subsequently, 111 guests who attended the wedding have tested positive for the virus.
An investigation has been launched into the matter as more than 50 people attended the wedding flouting government imposed Covid-19 restrictions.
Bihar has 9,744 confirmed cases and 62 deaths due to the contagion.
