The Kuwaiti Cabinet on Wednesday handpicked seniors, patients with chronic diseases, medics, front-liners and providers of basic services as major categories to be vaccinated against Covid-19 once the country takes delivers of a first shipment of vaccines.

This was announced by Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basel Al Sabah, while keeping the cabinet posted on Kuwait's vaccination blueprint purposed to curtail complications, infections and hospitalisations.

During an extraordinary cabinet meeting, the minister, who also doubles as chief of the Covid-19 vaccination committee, said the vaccination campaign would begin as soon as the first shipment of vaccines arrives.

Elaborating on Kuwait's Covid-19 situation and the world's latest virus developments, the minister cited a recent World Health Organization (WHO) bulletin as showing that the world's number of Covid-19 cases and fatalities have topped 40 million and 1.1 million respectively.

He also expounded on the mechanisms and protocols used by the State of Kuwait to rein in the spread of the highly contagious illness.

In this regard, the cabinet called on all citizens and residents to live up to their due responsibilities by staying at home unless necessary, putting on masks, ensuring physical distancing and using hand sanitisers and taking more care of seniors and patients with chronic diseases.
