A fatwa has been issued by the Kuwaiti authorities to temporarily suspend Friday sermons and prayers in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19), which has been termed as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs took to Twitter to make the announcement on Friday.

The Fatwa Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs issued Fatwa No. 18/20, which stipulated to stop Friday sermon and prayers at mosques from today until further notice. "Everyone must pray in their homes," the ministry said in a statement.
Local media quoted Dr Basil Al Sabah, Minister of Health, as saying that it is permissible not to go to mosques to perform Friday prayers under these circumstances.
