Kuwait on Thursday decided to start the second phase to return to normal life by easing curfew hours to between 8pm to 5am starting from June 30.
Public and private sectors will resume work with less than 30 per cent capacity, while shopping malls, the financial sector, construction sector, retail shops, parks, and pick-ups from restaurants and cafes will also reopen.
Tareq Al Mezrem, the Kuwaiti government spokesman, said at a press conference that life in Kuwait will gradually return to normal and restrictions will be eased as the number of new infections recorded dropped slowly.
The second phase plan will commence on June 30 for a period of three weeks, he said.
This is part of a five-phase plan to return to normal life, gradually he said, adding the government aims to reopen the economy completely by mid-September.
Meanwhile, the lockdown on the three areas of Farwaniya, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh and Mahboula that witnessed a surge in coronavirus cases will continue until further notice, he added.
Any movement forward will be subject to assessment by health authorities, he stressed.
On May 31, Kuwait ended its full curfew and imposed a three-week partial curfew for a gradual return to normality.
On June 18, Kuwait decided to ease restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait health ministry on Thursday reported 909 new cases of the Covid-19, along with 558 recoveries.
Two new deaths were also reported.
With this, a total of 42,788 cases have been reported in the country, along with 33,367 recoveries. Total deaths stand at 339.As many as 3,286 new Covid-19 tests have been carried out, taking the total to 368,510, the ministry added.At the moment, there are 9,082 active cases in the country, of which 152 are serious.
