The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Monday reported 1,501 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,746 recoveries. Three deaths were also reported.
As many as new 116,687 Covid-19 tests were carried out, taking the total number of tests carried out in the country to more than 21.3 million so far.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said on Sunday that pregnant women and nursing mothers are are not eligible to receive the vaccination against Covid-19.
In a tweet, the DHA specified the categories of residents that are not eligible to receive the vaccine. These include those aged under 18 years, people with immunodeficiency diseases, those who are allergic to any vaccines, food or medicine, those who carry self-injectable adrenaline and the women who are planning to get pregnant in the next three months.
In another development, Britain on Monday took a giant step in the fight against Covid-19 by giving the first shots of the vaccine created by Oxford University and pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to an 82-year-old man.
Dialysis patient Brian Pinker was the first to get the new vaccine shot by the chief nurse at Oxford University Hospital. Pinker said he was so pleased and that he can “now really look forward to celebrating my 48th wedding anniversary with my wife Shirley later this year.”
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered at a small number of hospitals for the first few days so that authorities can watch out for any adverse reactions. But hundreds of new vaccination sites — at both hospitals as well as local doctors’ offices — will launch this week, joining the more than 700 already in operation, NHS England said.
