The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday reported 1,506 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,475 recoveries. Two deaths were also reported.
As many as new 153,157 Covid-19 tests were carried out, taking the total number of tests carried out in the country to more than 20.5 million so far.
While the roll-out of two Covid-19 vaccines is bringing the UAE closer to winning the war on the virus, medics have stressed that all safety measures must still be followed to the letter this New Year’s Eve. Do not drop your guard, they warned, because people remain at risk of contracting Covid-19, even if some have already taken a jab.
Though vaccines have now been made available to the masses and restrictions are slowly being eased, health authorities of the UAE and the World Health Organisation still advise the general population and residents to take precautions in terms of using masks, sanitisers, social distancing and avoiding crowded areas.
The Abu Dhabi Police have also urged residents to follow precautionary measures and all other regulations to contain the spread of Covid-19. According to the resolution, a Dh10,000 fine will be imposed on whoever invites or organises gatherings, meetings, and private and public celebrations. Every participant will be fined Dh5,000. In Dubai, private gatherings of more than 30 people are prohibited. Fines are set at Dh50,000 for the host and Dh15,000 for each attendee.
Meanwhile, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued directives to extend tourist visas for one additional month, without any government fees, due to temporary airport closures and entry restrictions around the world.
The decision supports tourists and their families currently in the UAE to spend the New Year holidays in the country.
