Coronavirus: UAE reports 2,159 Covid-19 cases, 1,939 recoveries, 10 deaths

Dubai - The new cases were detected through 244,459 additional tests.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 2,159 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,939 recoveries and 10 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 244,459 additional tests.


The total number of cases in UAE as on March 13 are 424,405 while total recoveries stand at 403,478. The death toll rises to 1,388.

Over 33.5 million tests have been conducted in the UAE to date to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Dubai is trialling a breath test to detect Covid. The test gives results in 60 seconds. The trials are being conducted at the DHA’s Nadd Al Hamar primary health care centre for 2,500 patients.

In its latest update on Saturday morning, the Johns Hopkins University revealed that the overall number of global Covid-19 cases has topped 119 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.63 million.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 29,343,530 and 532,400, respectively. India reported its biggest daily spike in Covid-19 of the year on Saturday, with 24,882 infections as a resurgence since last month continues. The new cases mark the highest 24-hour figure since December 19, boosting the caseload of 11.33 million, now third after US and Brazil, which has overtaken India, according to recent data.

The Philippines has detected its first case of the highly contagious coronavirus variant first identified in Brazil, the health ministry said on Saturday. The Philippines, which has the second-highest Covid-19 cases and deaths in Southeast Asia, is battling a renewed surge as it ramps up a vaccination drive that started on March 1.

Doctors in the UAE say that while a vast majority of kids with Covid-19 don’t get sick or show only mild flu-like symptoms, a few can develop multisystem inflammatory syndrome that causes severe inflammation of the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, weeks after recovering from Covid-19. A top doctor has revealed that severe Covid-19 can cause kidney failure and prove fatal for dialysis patients. He also said dialysis patients who contract Covid-19 have higher chances of death.
