The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday reported 2,721 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,666 recoveries and 15 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 225,159 additional tests.

Over 31 million tests have been conducted across the UAE to date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The total number of cases in UAE as on March 2 are 396,771 while total recoveries stand at 383,998. The death toll rises to 1,253.

Dubai on Tuesday announced the cancellation of all Ramadan tent permits in the emirate this year, in line with nationwide efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai explained that the move aims to prevent large gatherings, where people may flout social distancing rules put in place during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Oman on Monday declared a partial lockdown would begin this week.

All commercial activities in Oman will close from 8pm to 5am local time, from 8pm to 5am, starting March 4 to March 20.

Authorities in the country have also decided to extend distance learning for public schools from March 7-11.

The measures have been taken as part of tighter restrictions to limit the spread of the pandemic.
