The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday reported 2,876 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,454 recoveries.
Six deaths were also reported.
The new cases were detected through 171,951 additional tests.
More than 22.4 million Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the UAE so far.
The total number of cases as on January 10 is 230,578 while total recoveries are 206,114. Death toll rises to 708.
Total active cases stand at 23,756.
Health authorities on Saturday reported that over one million doses have now been administered against Covid-19. The rate of vaccine distribution is now 10.32 doses per 100 people, which is just second behind Israel globally.
The 1-million milestone is a major step towards realising the UAE’s goal to vaccinate 50 per cent of the country’s population by the end of March. In the past three days alone, more than 194,000 doses were provided free of cost as the general public continues to come out in droves to take the jab.
The National Vaccination Programme has been giving citizens and residents new hope and optimism. However, medical experts are urging residents to stick to social distancing protocols and avoid gatherings. People must continue to wear masks in order to lessen the spread until the entire country has been vaccinated.
Meanwhile, a study conducted by Pfizer Inc concluded that the US drugmaker's vaccine appears able to protect against a key mutation in the highly transmissible new coronavirus variants discovered in Britain and South Africa.
Although yet to be peer-reviewed, the study indicated the vaccine was effective in neutralising the virus with the so-called N501Y mutation of the spike protein.
