Coronavirus: UAE reports 3,498 Covid-19 cases, 2,478 recoveries, 16 deaths

Dubai - Over 30.2 million tests have been conducted across the UAE to date.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday reported 3,498 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,478 recoveries and 16 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 187,176 additional tests.

Over 30.2 million tests have been conducted across the UAE to date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The total number of cases in UAE as on February 26 are 385,160 while total recoveries stand at 377,537. The death toll rises to 1,198.

A senior World Health Organization official on Thursday urged national authorities to make a priority of understanding the long-term consequences of coronavirus infections as some people show worrying symptoms months later.

While some studies are beginning to shed light on the illness, it is still unclear why some patients with Covid-19 continue to show symptoms for months, including tiredness, brain fog, and cardiac and neurological disorders.

In early February, WHO organised the first virtual seminar devoted to so called “Long Covid,” in order to properly define it, give it a formal name and harmonise methods for studying it.

Meanwhile, the UAE’s Covid-19 response has been ranked the highest in the Middle East and in the top 15 globally, in the Global Soft Power Index 2021.

The country's efforts in facilitating international aid during the pandemic and its mass vaccination drive were widely praised in the index.

Authorities in Sharjah on Thursday announced they would extend 100 per cent distance learning in all public and private schools and nurseries until the end of spring semester on March 25.
