The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday reported 3,601 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 3,890 recoveries. Seven deaths were also reported.
The new cases were detected through additional 175,249 tests.
More than 24.8 million tests have been carried out across the country so far.
The total number of cases in UAE as on January 26 stand at 285,147 while total recoveries are 259,194. Death toll rises to 805.
The UAE has conducted over 24.6 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19. However, with a spike in Covid-19 cases in recent days, the ministry has urged the public to follow all preventive guidelines.
On Monday, worldwide coronavirus cases surpassed 100 million, according to global counters, as nations around the globe scramble to procure vaccines and continue to extend or reinstate lockdowns to fight new variants. The new Covid-19 variants discovered initially in the UK and South Africa are rapidly spreading globally. Global total active cases stand at nearly 26 million.
The UAE has administered 2.57 million doses of vaccine till date and has the second highest rate of vaccination globally after Israel. The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has updated compulsory PCR test procedures for employees who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19. In its latest update, the FAHR said recipients of the first dose of the vaccine have to take the PCR tests every seven days as well. This will continue till they take their second dose, the FAHR added.
Meanwhile, a number of restaurants in Dubai has launched a discount drive for vaccinated customers. As per the social media accounts of the hospitality group, people looking to avail the discount need to show proof of inoculation, such as a medical certificate or vaccination card, to get the discount. Meanwhile, ride-sharing app Uber has also announced that it will offer discounted rides to people looking to receive Covid-19 vaccination in the UAE, in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.
Although taking the vaccine is not mandatory in the UAE, a national vaccination campaign is under way, encouraging citizens and residents to take the jab for free in order to fight the pandemic.
