The first person in the UK, and perhaps one of the oldest person in the world to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 jab, has now been administered the follow-up vaccine at University Hospital in Coventry.

Briton Margaret Keenan, 91, was given the ‘booster jab' three weeks after she received her first jab on December 8.

Hospital chief executive Andy Hardy said: “We were delighted to welcome Margaret Keenan back to Coventry’s University Hospital today to safely receive the second dose of the vaccination after she became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 (vaccine) following its clinical approval.”

Two doses of the vaccine is required to be taken for it to be fully effective.

The vaccine developed by Pfizer and German firm BioNTech is given in two doses three weeks apart. Its developers say it conferred 95% immunity in clinical trials.

Keenan said she felt "privileged" to be given the vaccine, the first of millions expected to be administered in the UK over the coming months.

The Pfizer-BioNTech jab is one of several vaccines bringing hope for an end to the pandemic that has killed more than 1.5 million people worldwide and ravaged economies.
