Authorities in Ajman closed down a café permanently and slapped a Dh60,000 fine on it for blatantly disregarding the 'closure' notice (sticker) issued earlier for violating Covid-19 measures and continuing operations without permission.
The crackdown was carried out by the Department of Economic Development in coordination with the Ajman Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management team.
Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ajman Police, head of the Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management team, said that the decision to shut down the cafe permanently came through as a follow-up to the rule that commercial and economic establishments should keep their facilities open only until 12 midnight. During an inspection some time back, it was found that the café had been operating beyond 2am. The department had then issued a 'closure' notice against the cafe.
However, its owner removed the 'closure' sticker to suspend the activities. He was fined Dh10,000 for removing the sticker and Dh50.000 for breaching the anti-Covid norms.
Al Numai called on the establishments in the emirate of Ajman to fall in line or face the consequences.
