Fines for violating Covid safety rules in the UAE range from Dh500 to Dh50,000. However, residents have the option to challenge a fine if they feel they have been penalised unfairly.
New Covid restrictions in UAE:
A new electronic service has been launched for residents to challenge the fines. The service can be accessed via www.pp.gov.ae. It can also be accessed via the public prosecution app.
One can file his/her complaint against any Covid-19 fine in a few simple steps that include personal information, fine details, and his or her reasons for challenging the fine.
Salem Ali Al Zaabi, acting chief prosecutor of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Prosecution, said the authority has 12 sub-committees and over 60 public prosecutors nationwide to look into any complaint about Covid-19 fines.
“Actually, we are not the entity that issues the fines ... We examine complaints based on existing rules and regulations."
It is the duty of the prosecution to investigate every relevant complaint and decide whether to cancel the fine or uphold it.
The prosecution is reachable via hotline 80099999 for more information, Al Zaabi added.
