The UAE Public Prosecution received 84,253 appeals against penalties imposed for Covid-19 safety violations in 2020. These were submitted through the remote grievance service on the authority's website.

All of them were thoroughly checked and were either rejected, or the fines cancelled or reduced.

Fines for violating Covid safety rules in the UAE range from Dh500 to Dh50,000. However, residents have the option to challenge a fine if they feel they have been penalised unfairly.

The service can be accessed via www.pp.gov.ae. It can also be accessed via the public prosecution app.

One can file his/her complaint against any Covid-19 fine in a few simple steps that include personal information, fine details, and his or her reasons for challenging the fine.

This came as the authority released its 2020 annual report. The number of remote procedures it conducted reached 256,626.

The Public Prosecution issued 6,089 penalty orders, and enforced 71,245 judicial rulings. The number of public prosecution lawsuits hit 35,815, while appeals totalled 26,652.

The cassation prosecution presented 1,368 legal opinions, requesting appeals. Completion of the aforementioned lawsuits hit 99 per cent.

The Public Prosecution said 93,639 e-requests were made, 7,489 remote investigations were carried out.
