Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE have started an international study with 4,000 volunteers to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of their Covid-19 vaccine in healthy pregnant women, the companies said on Thursday.

Women will receive the vaccine during weeks 24-34 of gestation, getting two shots 21 days apart — the same regimen used in the larger clinical trial.

The Sheba Medical Center’s findings compare with overall efficacy of around 95% in a two-dose regimen 21 days apart.

Over in the UAE Capital, at least 600 jabs are being administered daily at a drive-thru facility in Abu Dhabi, boosting the UAE’s nationwide vaccination drive.

According to health authorities, the first dose of vaccination is temporarily offered only to the elderly, those suffering from chronic diseases, and people of determination. However, anyone can take the second jab by showing proof of taking the first one.
