UAE Covid vaccine: Detainees in Sharjah pretrial centres given jab

Sharjah - Sharjah Police's health campaign aims to protect detainees and members of the police force from Covid.

Keeping in line with the UAE's nationwide campaign to vaccinate at least half of the eligible population against Covid-19 by the end of March, the Sharjah Police have inoculated detainees in pretrial detention centres at various police stations to ensure the health and safety of those in the police custody as well as police personnel.

Colonel Yusef Obaid bin Harmol, Director of the Comprehensive Police Centers Department said that the Sharjah Police General Command, represented by the Department of Comprehensive Police stations, are continuing with its free health campaign titled, 'Together for Vaccination' to protect detainees and members of the police force from Covid-19.

The initiative was launched at the beginning of this week in cooperation with the Specialized Arab Doctors Center, Sharjah, to provide Covid vaccine to all its employees, including the detainees in pretrial detention.

“The vaccination campaign that began on Sunday morning for all employees of Sharjah Police stations has expanded to include detainees who are in pretrial detention in police stations, in order to provide safety and security for them and protect them from health risks, as they are a part of the community surrounding. The campaign will continue, to ensure that the detainees receive the vaccine”

He emphasised the importance of obtaining vaccination, indicating that it is the safest way to protect people and those around them from infection. The police is making great efforts to contribute to preventing the transmission of infection in the community, by adhering to the principle of social responsibility, and preventive and precautionary measures.
