A novel initiative is putting a smile on the faces of children with Covid-19 by granting them their wishes, while alleviating their psychological burden and reassuring them to get through the crisis.
It has been started by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap), in cooperation with the Make a Wish Foundation, for kids tested Covid positive, who are receiving medical care whether in Mohap's hospitals, or quarantine centres or those in home isolation.
Mohap recently met with these children 'virtually' to know about their wishes, which included acquiring tablet devices and other electronic gadgets to play educational and interactive games "that would help improve their way of thinking and cognitive skills, in addition to entertaining them".
Overwhelmed with emotions as they watched their kids' wishes being fulfilled, their families were all praises for those behind the initiative and thanked them.
Enhance positivity
Dr Kalthoum Al Balushi, director of the hospitals department, said: "Such initiatives reflect values of solidarity and synergy in the UAE society. Our aim is to enhance the positive attitudes among the children with Covid-19 and to put a smile on their faces in these challenging times, as part of the keenness of the governmental institutions to grant children's wishes and motivate them to pass through their crisis."
Thanking Make a Wish Foundation for their efforts to spread happiness in the UAE society, Al Balushi pointed out that Mohap provides integrated health and psychological care for Covid-19 patients by implementing the medical protocol used in hospitals based on the capabilities and resources provided by the wise government to provide health services to patients in accordance with best practices.
Hani Al-Zubaidi, CEO, Make A Wish Foundation, praised Mohap's efforts to grant wishes of children with Covid-19. Al-Zubaidi stressed the foundation's readiness to cooperate with the public and private agencies that are keen to fulfill their social responsibility and to spread happiness in society, as well as bring joy to children with chronic diseases and to instill hope in their families.
