The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has specified seven reasons for which UAE citizens and residents can travel abroad.

Travellers can apply for a permit through an 'exit registration service' launched by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) on its website.

According to NCEMA, the categories under which a permit can be applied for are as follows:

> Education
> Medical treatment
> Diplomatic mission
> Official government business
> Private sector business travel
> Business travel for those in commercial and economic sectors
> UAE residents who wish to visit their home countries and return to the UAE.

No leisure travel

The authority reiterated that travel for leisure or tourism would not be permitted in the current period. Only essential travel would be allowed as outlined above. However, applicants would be assessed on a case-by-case basis according to the risk levels and health status in other countries.

All applications must be supported with relevant documents such as Emirates ID copy, residency permit copy, valid passport copy, and proof of the reason for departure.

On Wednesday, the authority confirmed that residents would need a negative Covid-19 test result in order to travel.

Official NCEMA spokesperson Dr Seif Al Dhaheri said: "We are at a critical stage which requires everyone's commitment and cooperation."
