A Dubai expat, who recently returned to the Indian state of Kerala, was chased down by local authorities and moved to an isolation centre on Monday after he violated the mandatory quarantine regulations, local media has reported. Dramatic scenes unfolded as police and health officials in PPE suits began chasing the unidentified man through the busy St Peter's junction in Pathanamthitta district. The street chase in full daylight was also live on a Malayalam news channel. The man clad in blue jeans and an orange t-shirt could be seen trying to run away before he was overpowered by the officials. He was later bound to a stretcher and forcibly taken to an isolation centre. The man had returned home from Dubai three days ago and had stepped out of his house without wearing a mask when he was stopped by the police, according to Kerala media reports. On questioning, it was understood that the man did not quarantine himself after flying back from the UAE. Returning non-resident Keralites (NRKs) have to undertake a compulsory 14-day quarantine as per state government regulations. Khaleej Times is awaiting comments from the Kerala health authorities. anjana@khaleejtimes.com
