The net facilities were inaugurated by Al Nasr Sports Club Deputy General Manager Omran Al Jassim on Tuesday, which will encourage young kids to enroll themselves and help them grow as cricketers. "It is indeed an historic moment for us," said Managing Director of Maxtalent Sudhakar Shetty.
Al Nasr Sports Club, one of the oldest clubs formed in 1945, has basically been a hub for football activities. This is the first time that the club has taken a step to encourage cricket. "We are confident that with this facilities we can have more and more locals getting involved in this game. In fact, the very first day we have had a UAE national enrolling, which certainly is an encouraging sign," Shetty said.
"We are thankful to the club for providing us this facility and we are also grateful to Mohammad Kahoor Ahmad, General Manager, who supported us to make this dream turn into a reality," he added.
Shetty said that they were committed to develop the interest for the game among the UAE nationals and the training facility would act as a supply chain for the national team in the near future. "Our aim is to get a combined Arabic school cricket team in one of our tournaments and we want to solve the UAE national team problem of not finding talented young nationals to fill the team as per the requirements of the Asian Cricket Council and International Cricket Council," said Shetty.
This is the fourth training academy by the Maxtalent with the other three located in Sharjah, Al Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Shetty expected that this new academy would be of a more advantage for youngsters considering the location. "The main advantage of this club is the accessibility. So it would be easy for the youngster to reach the venue without much hindrance. The other thing is there are lot of nationals who come here in the age group of eight to 17 years to play football. So if we manage to get at least five local kids in a year that would be a huge leap forward. So in a matter of two years, if we prepare two to three boys for the national team, that would be really a huge boost for us."
