Thousands of Afghans from all over the UAE and even from Al Buraimi (Oman) flocked to Dubai to buck up their ever-improving cricket team against US. But they were very disappointed as they were stopped at the gates of Dubai Sports City for reasons only known to security personnel.
Some of the disgruntled spectators spoke to Khaleej Times outside the stadium.
Daud Khan said: “I came from Al Ain to watch the match but I have been told that ground is already full.”
Rehmatullah Gohar, who is studying medicine in India and landed in Dubai to watch the stars of country, said: “I am a good friend of captain Nawroz Mangal. We used to play together. He hails from Khost and spent his early life in Pakistan. “I came here to support my team but am still waiting to go inside.
“We are feeling proud of our team and it is the best thing happening in Afghanistan.”
The Afghan spectators were allowed to go inside the stadium after the innings break. They eventually managed to see Afghanistan’s winning moments against US.
