Al Faraa Whites, Baloch champs

AL AIN — Al Faraa Whites re-claimed the prestigious Nehru Cup after they beat defending champions WED CC by 40 runs in the 16th Nehru Cup ‘A’ division final played in Al Ain over the week-end held under the auspices of Al Ain Cricket Association (ACA).

Al Faraa Whites strengthened by addition of ex-Pakistani Test player Farhaan Adil posted a challenging 265/2 in 22 overs with opener Nasir Butt cracking a splendid 129 (8x6s, 15x4s, 55b) sharing a match-winning 201 second wicket stand with Farhaan Adil who remained unbeaten on 85 (13x4s, 57b).

WED CC batsmen went for the chase with Javed Asim (49), Azeem Ansari (35), Khalid Shakir (54) and Sajjad Hussain (48) scoring some runs but none could match Al Faraa Whites’ stand that won them the title. Farhan Adil chipped in with 3 wickets as WED CC were restricted to 225/8, falling short by 40 runs.

Nasir Butt was adjudged player of the tournament for his outstanding display during the Nehru Cup tournament.

In the B division final, Baloch CC proved too strong for Kashmir CC, winning by 49 runs.

Jaydeep Arora, Al Faraa Group of Companies’ representative and ACA officials presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning teams.
