All set for U-19 girls’ tourney

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Cricket Council, under the auspices of the Emirates Cricket Board, will be organising a two-day inter-school girls cricket tournament for under-19 age group at the Sharjah Cricket stadium on May 3-4, a press release said.

The event will give an opportunity to more than 90 girls from schools across the UAE to display their sporting skills, apart from their dedication to the game of cricket. The teams will play a league-cum-knock out basis. The teams have been divided into three groups with each group consisting of three teams. A total of 14 matches will be played during the two-day tournament with seven matches being played on the first day. All participating teams will be provided with a pair of cricketing outfit by the tournament organisers.

There is no entry fee and all matches will be monitored and supervised by a technical committee and individual performance will be judged by an ECB adjudicator.

Performing players will have an opportunity to represent the United Arab Emirates Under-19 team, which will play in the Asian Cricket Council tournament to be held in Singapore in September 2010.

Nine teams that will be competing in the tournament are: Delhi Private School, Dubai, Delhi Private School, Sharjah, Gulf Indian School, Modern High School, Westminster School, Our Own School Sharjah, Our Own School, Al Ain, Our Own School, Dubai, Emirates English Speaking School.
