“We are in a good position and we could bat on for an hour. Later, if we bowl well, I think we can get them out. The ball is reversing pretty quickly and that’s very handy for our fast bowlers. The wicket is deteriorating a bit, but nowhere near as much as I personally thought it would. But we definitely need to bowl extremely well to get the Indians all out.”
Watson, who was unsure about Ponting’s plan for the fifth day, said that he was surprised that the wicket had held up really well though it had deteriorated so early in the match.
“After day two, I thought the wicket would deteriorate quickly actually, but surprisingly it has held up really well. Hopefully a few demons would pop up tomorrow while we are bowling. So far it hasn’t played anywhere near as bad as it probably look at the moment.”
Noting that it was tough batting out there with the Indian bowlers really bowling well, he said that it was a learning experience.
“Batting there against the Indians with Harbhajan bowling extremely well on a turning wicket and a fair bit of reverse as well is very challenging. Then bowling on that sort of wicket, I have learnt a lot already. So, it has been an amazing four days so far and it’s a lot of fun.”
Watson seemed to be least bothered about the kind of wicket on offer and said that he was only concerned about bowling a tight line. “To be honest, the wickets to me really don’t matter. It’s more about bowling extremely tight and when the ball is reversing its going to give me more options and opportunities to get wickets.
“But my goal is to bowl as tight as possible and build pressure and make it extremely difficult for the opponents to score.”
