Australia win toss and bat against Ireland

Australia captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat against Ireland in their one-day international at Clontarf here on Thursday.

Australia, playing the first match of their British Isles tour, fielded a near first choice team with Steven Smith, Shaun Marsh and 19-year-old fast bowler Josh Hazlewood left out of the travelling 14.

Ireland omitted left-arm spinner Gary Kidd after Andre Botha pulled out Wednesday with a stress fracture of the back.

Australia are set to play five one-day international against England, starting next week, as well as two Tests and two Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan in England, during their tour.
