Canada Take Firm Control on First Day

SHARJAH — Canada took the first day honours against Afghanistan in the four-day match of the ICC Intercontinental Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Canada on the right track scoring 350 for six in 98 overs when stumps were drawn.

Openers S Jyoti (32) and TC Bastiampillai (55) gave Canada the perfect start with an 61-run opening stand.

NR Kumar (74) and A Bagai, who missed a well deserved century by seven runs, carried the good work to put Canada in a strong position.

Both shared a 155-run partnership for the third wicket.

S Dhani Ram (38) and U Bhatti (1) were at the stumps.

For Afghanistan Samiullah Shenwari was the man of the day who picked up three wickets and also took two catches. S Zadran, M Ashraf and M Nabi picked up a wicket each.
