Afghanistan have to come up with something very spectacular on the final day if they have to match the Canada challenge. Chasing an improbable target of 494, Afghanistan were 40 for no loss in 13 overs in their second innings when stumps were drawn.
Earlier, Afghanistan with an overnight score of 110 for 3 never looked to reach anywhere near Canada’s first innings total of 566 as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Shabir Noori topscored with 60 while Mohammad Nabi (48 not out) Karim Sadiq (32) were the other contributors, which helped Afghanistan finish at 264 in 79 overs.
Canada with a huge first innings lead of 302 runs kept the run flow at a faster pace in the second innings as opener TC Bastiampillai scored 73 off 93 balls, while S Jyoti stroked an unbeaten 35 off just 33 balls. They declared their innings at 191 for four in 40 overs.
Afghanistan made a positive start with openers Karim Sadiq (29 not out) and Noor Ali (11 not out) at the crease.
