Polls show Americans remain deeply worried about the economy and inflation
The National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) met on Monday and a sub committee had been formed to look into irregularities concerning about 300 million rupees (3.5 million dollars) of cricket money.
‘The irregularities were highlighted in an audit report for the period of 2003 to 2008,’ a PAC spokesman said.
‘PAC president Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has appointed a committee under parliamentarian Khawaja Asif to investigate and give a report in 30 days.’
Ijaz Butt, who took over as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in October 2008, also attended Monday’s meeting in Islamabad.
‘We have left the matter in the hands of the PAC, who have formed a committee to look into these facts which are an eye opener for everyone,’ Butt told reporters in Islamabad.
Butt said the irregularities were reported during the tenure of his predecessor Nasim Ashraf.
Pakistan’s national game has been hit by a series of controversies in recent years, including doping scandals, match-fixing allegations and numerous disciplinary violations by players.
