The 30-year old plans to play for another five years, but has the right attitude when it comes to the big matches. He likes to have a bit of fun, and even when he answers the questions of journalists, he is relatively cool and simple. Perhaps this approach might be one of the reasons for his success in international cricket.
He had a wonderful South African tour recently, as he claimed two man-of-the-match awards, including a match-winning performance in the second Test in Durban. Till a couple of year’s ago England’s first-choice spinner was Monty Panesar. Swann replaced Panesar and played a crucial role in his team’s Ashes victories over Australia at Lord’s and the Oval.
England would be looking up to Swann for restricting the dashing Pakistan batsmen in the WorldCall Twenty20 internationals at the Dubai Spots City stadium on Friday and Saturday.
He realises that Pakistan had a terrific record in Twenty20 internationals.
“We have the video footage of their performances. Their batsmen like to attack. As a spinner, you have chances of picking up a wicket when they come after you,” Swann told reporters at the Grand Hyatt on Tuesday.
The off-spinner is also looking to have a good outing against England Lions in the warm-up match at the Shaikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
He believes the match against the England ‘A’ team would help the team prepare better for the matches against Pakistan this weekend.
“It will be a good match practice before the Pakistan game,” he said
After having practice sessions at the Dubai Sports City stadium, he was very much impressed with what he saw at the stadium.
“The facilities are good. Look wise, it reminded me of the Wellington stadium.
Regarding the wickets, he said: “Today it looked like a very good wicket. On the practice wickets, there is a tiny hint of turn. I think the wickets will be in favour of the batsmen, as it should be in Twenty20 matches.”
