The final match between the two premier sides turned out to be a tense, low-scoring affair with bowlers dominating the proceedings. DPS, batting first, could muster only 108 before being all out in the 19th over, and just when it appeared they have lost the early initiative, they staged a compelling fight-back to win the final with one over to spare.
DPS built their innings around Furqan Aashiq (32), Siddarth Sekar (22) and Aagam Shah (18), who defied a charged up Modern High School attack, spearheaded by Varun Totadri and Akash Sinha.
The two bowled brilliantly, sharing seven wickets to restrict the DPS score. Varun snared four wickets for just 18 runs while Akash took three for 12 runs, but all their efforts, in the end, were not good enough to see off the DPS challenge.
Unruffled by a modest score to defend, DPS bowlers rose to the occasion and stunned their opponents with some inspired spells. With Aagam Shah and Aman Handa taking two wickets each, DPS ripped through the Modern High School batting, eventually bowling the side out for 97 in 19 overs.
Shorye Chopra did offer some worthwhile resistance to the disciplined DPS attack, but he lacked support from the other end.
Modern High School, however, had something to cheer about when Shorye Chopra and Varun Totadri were named the Best Batsman and the Best Bowler respectively of the tournament.
The coveted Player of the Tournament award went to DPS’ Siddarth Sekar, who scored 222 runs and took eight wickets in six matches he played during the tournament. Aagam Shah was named Player of the Final for his tidy all-round performance.
Brief scores: Delhi Private School Sharjah beat Modern High School Dubai by 11 runs: DPS Sharjah 108 all out in 18.5 overs (Furqan Aashiq 32, Siddarth Sekar 22, Aagam Shah 18; Varun Totadri 4-18, Akash Sinha 3-12, Vishal Bali 1-22) Modern High School 97 all out in 19 overs (Shorye Chopra 37; Aagam Shah 2-16, Aman Handa 2-19, Yash Shodman 1-18, Siddarth Sekar 1-20, Dhruva 1-16). Man of the match: Aagam Shah of DPS Sharjah.
Tournament awards: Best Batsman: Shorye Chopra of Modern High School (265 runs in six matches, three not outs); Best Bowler: Varun Totadri of Modern High School (14 wickets for 82 runs in six matches); Player of the Tounament: Siddarth Sekar of Delhi Private School, Sharjah (222 runs and eight wickets in six matches).
