In an inconsequential Group D match, Dry Docks World defeated Carfare Dubai XI by four wickets in the 20-over tournament, organised by Dulsco SC in association with the Dubai Municipality. It is being played under the aegis of the Dubai Cricket Council.
It was a consolation win for Dry Docks as they had nothing to gain from this victory as Carfare XI Dubai and hosts Dulsco SC had already made it to the next round.
Batting first, Carfare XI, taking it easy, put on 139 for the loss of eight wickets while Dry Docks World Dubai reached the target with three balls to spare.
After openers Aashish and Kashif had put on 50 for the first wicket, Carfare XI then lost wickets regularly as their team-mates could not cash in on the bright start. Aashish scored a well-made half century (52) from 45 balls and hit three sixes and four fours while his partner Kashif was caught by Rafaqat off the bowling of Ali for 22 which included one six and two boundaries.
Abhinay scored a dozen runs while Imtiyaz remained not out on 24.
Ali and M Farooq claimed three wickets each for 27 and 18 runs respectively while Thaimoor bagged two wickets and conceded 22 runs in his four-over spell.
Chasing a relatively easy target, Dry Docks World Dubai made a bad start losing both their openers for just seven runs. Quaid returned to the pavilion for duck while Rafaqat made three from eight deliveries he faced.
However, Brar and Ali put their heads together and put on 40 runs for the third wicket. Brar made 27 from as many balls before he was bowled by Aashish and hit one six and two fours during his stay at the crease. Thaimoor along with Farooq later saw their team through with a 51-run partnership. Thaimoor was not out on 39 scored from 21 balls and hit three towering sixes while Farooq was unbeaten on 12 which included one six.
Rohit bagged two wickets for 26 runs while Kashif, Rauf, Aashish and Javed picked up one each for the losers.
Thaimoor of Dry Docks World Dubai was named the man of the match for his all-round performance.
