Starting from September 29 to October 15, the Super Sixes will be unique in its own way. The tournament held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council will feature 48 corporate teams with some of the biggest names in the game from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia participating in the tournament. All the matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The final will be on October 15 with the qualifying rounds played over three weekends.

Each team will comprise of six players, along with two substitutes, and with the opportunity to choose five neutral fielders from a large pool of players. Playing under the supervision of neutral umpires, the format requires each side to play a limited 5-over innings which they have to complete in 30 minutes.

The eight teams that reach the quarter-finals stage will each be assigned a top cricket player, who will play alongside them and serve as a mentor/coach.

Former Pakistan captain and brand ambassador of Dubai Super Sixes, Wasim Akram speaking at a press conference, said that the fast-paced tournament was an excellent opportunity for the region’s most talented sportsmen among the corporate teams to play along with their role models and unite the many local-level sports events under the umbrella of Dubai Sports City. “Cricket remains a passion for many expatriates in this region and we are pleased to see a growing number of companies putting greater emphasis on supporting this positive trend,” Akram said. “By interacting and playing alongside their role models during the tournament, corporate teams in the region have the opportunity to experience the game as it should be played, under world-class conditions.”

Arshad Zaheer, Managing Director of Crayons Communications, said: “This time round, we are proud to present an innovative concept in cricket which promises to provide all-round entertainment to the contestants, their families and spectators.”

“Following the first tournament, we are keen to evolve this concept as an annual event and broaden its scope to allow a larger number of teams to participate,” Zaheer added.

V Ramesh, CEO of Gulf Oil, the main sponsor, said that the Dubai Super Sixes event was an important platform to encourage young cricketers and build an entire new generation of sports lovers. “Gulf Oil has been synonymous with fresh ideas that broaden our brand’s appeal across the region and we are proud to be associated with an event of this caliber,” he added.

Maqbul Dudhia, General Manager (Sports Business), Dubai Sports City, while congratulating the organisers said: “With over 48 corporate teams participating alongside an enviable list of luminaries from the cricketing world, Dubai Sports City is pleased to be an important partner of this annual event.”

“Our world-class facilities have been especially readied to ensure that cricket-lovers have a month-long calendar of the best sporting action in this part of the world.”

The event is organised by Crayons Communications and supported by Gulf Oil. This unique format is globally owned by Ignitee Digital Sports. Dubai Sports City are the venue partners while Media Rotana are the Hospitality partners, and Edward Steven & Associates are the public relations partners.
