At the interval, Zunaed was on 106 along with Mushfiqur Rahim, who is closing in on a second test century on 91 not out at the interval as the pair’s unbroken sixth-wicket partnership moved to 167 runs.
Resuming on 191-5, Bangladesh added 86 runs in the morning and need a further 236 runs in the remaining two sessions if they are to upset England and chase down a world record target of 513 runs.
Coming together with the score on 110-5 around 20 minutes before tea on the fourth day, Zunaed and vice-captain Rahim have batted out more than two sessions and dashed any hopes the tourists had of wrapping up a quick victory.
Zunaed, unbeaten on 68 overnight, completed his century in 262 balls, hitting his 16th boundary over the long-off off Steven Finn.
Rahim reached his second fifty of the match in the second over of the morning, driving a half-volley ball of the same bowler for a cover boundary.
England took the new ball in the sixth over of the day and although Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan drew a couple of edged shots through the slips cordon, the batsman have otherwise offered very few chances.
The second and final test of the series starts in Dhaka on Saturday.
