Tim Bresnan was retained in the 12-man squad following his late call-up last week after fellow Yorkshire seamer Ajmal Shahzad aggravated an ankle injury.

Bresnan was left out of the England XI that won the first Test of a four-match series by a crushing 354 runs inside four days at Trent Bridge here on Sunday and, barring injuries, the same side is set to play at Edgbaston.

England squad: Andrew Strauss (capt), Alastair Cook, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Eoin Morgan, Matt Prior (wkt), Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Steven Finn, Tim Bresnan
