Farid Malik Memorial Cup gets under way

DUBAI - A summer league has been organised to commemorate late UAE Cricket umpire Farid Malik. Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas is the organiser of the event, a press release said.

“The tournament is being held to honour the contribution that Farid Malik had made to promote the game in this region in his dedicated 30 years of service,” said Freddy Sidhwa.

He also added that such tournaments will be continuously organized in the future.

In the only match of the day, Eleven CC defeated Seven Seas by three wickets. Batting first, Seven Seas made 182 for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Husnain Raza batted brilliantly scoring 72 runs off just 41 balls.

He was aided by Javed Butt who scored 46 off just 18 balls. Bruce remained the highest wicket taker with three wickets for 28 runs. Chasing, Eleven CC achieved the target in 19.2 overs losing seven wickets.

Healthy contributions were made by Naim who scored 55, Majith (51), Darshana (22) and Asif (17 not out). Freddy Sidhwa remained the highest wicket taker with three wickets, while Asif took two and Firaz took one wicket.

Scores: Eleven CC defeated Seven Seas by three wickets. Seven Seas scored 182/6 in 20 overs (Husnain Raza 72, Javed Butt 46, Qadir 29; Bruce 3/28). Eleven CC scored 183/7 in 19.2 overs (Naim 55, Majith 51, Darshana 22; Freddy Sidhwa 3/55, Asif 2/20).
