Gambhir to lead against Australia in warm-up tie

India Test opener Gautam Gambhir will lead a Board President’s XI against Australia in a three-day practice match starting in Chandigarh later this month, the national selectors announced on Friday.

Gambhir, with 2,800 runs in 32 Tests, missed India’s last two matches in Sri Lanka in July-August due to a knee injury.

Fast bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, who missed the three-Test series against Sri Lanka also because of a knee injury, gets an opportunity to prove his fitness in the warm-up game beginning on September 25.


Australia will play two Tests, in Mohali (October 1-5) and Bangalore (Oct 9-13), followed by one-day internationals in Kochi (Oct 17), Visakhapatnam (Oct 20) and Goa (Oct 24).
