Gillespie, who took 259 test wickets for Australia, will work with Troy Cooley on the monthlong tour which includes a limited-overs tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa A and two four-day matches.

Gillespie has recently worked as a bowling coach in Zimbabwe’s domestic competition and in the Indian Premier League.

Cricket Australia spokesman Michael Brown on Friday said the 36-year-old retired paceman “understands the conditions we’ll face there.”

Zimbabwe is hosting the tour as preparation for its return to test cricket in July.
