But his efforts failed to prevent Ibsons CC from crashing to a 24-run defeat against Gyan Steel in the second Al Dhaid Ramadan T-20 tournament, organized by the Sharjah Cricket Council, for the Conmix Cup at Al Dhaid Cricket Village, a press release said.
Gyan Steel, batting first, did well to post a challenging 162 for eight in the allotted 20 overs despite a great spell by Fayyaz, who returned with a rich five-wicket haul for 25 runs. Haris Khan held the innings together, scoring a fine 44 off 32 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Kashif Khan (38 off 30 balls with five fours) further consolidated the gains, while Haroon Rashid (29 off 14 balls with five fours) and Ansar Butt (26 off 15 balls with three fours and two sixes) ended the innings with a flourish.
Besides Fayyaz, who bowled with a nagging accuracy, Tanveer also made his presence felt taking two wickets for 28 runs. Ibsons Group, in reply, were bowled out for 138 in the 19th over with Amir Jafar and Amir Mirza doing most of the damage by snaring three wickets each.
Arsalan further added to the woes of Ibsons batmen, picking up two wickets each.
Umar (28 off 22 balls), Khurram (27 off 17 balls) and Fayyaz (24 off 16 balls) batted well, but they all failed to convert their good starts into a big innings they needed to overhaul the Gyan Steel score.
Brief scores: Gyan Steel beat Ibsons by 24 runs: Gyan Steel 162 for eight in 20 overs (Haris Khan 44, Kashif Khan 38, Haroon Rasheed 29, Ansar Butt 26; Fayyaz Ahmed 5-25, Tanveer 2-28) Ibsons Group 138 all out in 18.4 overs (Umar 28, Khurram 27, Fayyaz Ahmed 24; Amir Jafar 3-20, Amir Mirza 3-32, Arsalan 2-24).
