The hosts made two changes, recalling fit-again Harbhajan Singh in place of the retired Anil Kumble. Opening batsman Murali Vijay was handed his international debut in place of Gautam Gambhir, who is serving a one-test ban.

Australia made one change by replacing fast bowler Stuart Clark with debutant off spinner Jason Krejza as the second specialist spinner alongside leg break bowler Cameron White.
