IPL 2015: Rajasthan Royals player approached for fixing, says reports

The Indian Express reported that Mumbai-based RR player didn’t accept the offer from the cricketer.

A Rajasthan Royals player informed the BCCI’s anti-corruption team last month that he had been approached by a Ranji teammate with an offer of money if he followed a pre-decided pattern of play, media reports said.

The Indian Express reported that Mumbai-based RR player didn’t accept the offer from the cricketer, who is not part of the T20 league, and instead informed a senior franchise official who reported the incident to the Anti-Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU).

It was only when he spoke about the chance to make money if he followed a pre-decided pattern, that the player realised that the approach was serious.

BCCI top officials too were informed about the approach, the report said.

Rajasthan Royals team was hit by the spot-fxing scandal in 2013 when three cricketers, including former Test pacer S Sreesanth were arrested.

Delhi Police who investigated the case, alleged that Amit Singh, a former RR player, had acted as a middle man between bookies and players, and also Jiju Janardhanan, a close friend of Sreesanth.

The latest revelations came after Rahul Dravid, former India captain and mentor of Rajasthan Royals, had called for exemplary punishment to tackle match fixing.
