Finally a reason of joy for the Kolkata Knight Riders. This has been a wonderful night for the Knightriders as they have tasted success after suffering a long string of embarrassing defeats. Chennai look depleted. Hard loss. Kolkata went down in the IPL but are making sure they take a few down with them. Chennai now face the frustrating prospect of having to rely on the outcome of their final league game against Punjab, and possibly net run-rate to see where they finish. Parthiv and Bailey gave Chennai a good opening today but both fell to direct hits. Raina and Dhoni got together in a very good partnership and Raina went on to get another fifty. He paced his knock very well and once he got out, Dhoni took charge. He fell just short of a fifty but his knock and Albie Morkel's cameo enabled Chennai to get to a huge score. Agarkar was hammered. There were dropped catches. A big last over further added to Kolkata's woes. It seems to be an uphill task for Knight Riders.
As the race for a place in the semi-finals strengthens, the last few games were a series of last-over thrillers. Chennai are currently placed second and will confirm their qualification for the semi-finals if they beat Kolkata. If they lose though, they’ll face the frustrating prospect of having to rely on the outcome of their final league game against Kings XI Punjab. Chennai won five-successive wins, ended by Royal Challengers Bangalore in Durban. However, a win over Mumbai Indians in their previous game took them to the brink of qualification. Their opening combination is still a worry. Matthew Hayden has been prolific, but has lacked support from the other end. Kolkata Knight Riders seems to a little bit unlucky.
Owing to the last seven losses, four have been decided in the final over and the last two have been the most agonizing. Kolkata showed signs of revival, but failed miserably. One looks formidable, the other forlorn.
