Lloyds TSB, Desert Kings in Dubai Super Sixes quarters

DUBAI — Lloyds TSB and Desert Kings demonstrated all-round batting and bowling displays on Thursday night to move into the quarter-finals of the Dubai Super Sixes 2010, held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday night.

Taking up from last week, Lloyds TSB first took on Khaleej Times in a Group C tie, where they scored an impressive 86 in 5 overs after batting first. In response, their opponents could manage only 25 runs. Prashanth Braggs from Lloyds TSB top-scored with 39 runs in 13 balls and was voted the man-of-the-match.

Lloyds TSB impressed in their next match too, where they successfully chased a target of 59 runs set by Fly Emirates Green.

In their final clash of the day, Lloyds TSB defeated Bader Al Lail when they successfully chased 58 runs set by their opponents. In all their three matches, Braggs was named as the man-of-the-match.

The day’s other winning team, Desert Kings WP, demolished their opponents Production House in their first match with a powerful batting performance from Razik Khan, who scored 60 runs from his team’s 67 runs. Khan also took two wickets to emerge as the man-of-the-match.

In their qualifying match, against Gulf Beauty International, Desert Kings WP, chased a mere total of 41 runs set by their opponents, with Khan again shining with a quick-fire 35 runs.

With the two teams entering the quarter-finals, the stage is set for an exciting showdown between eight of the top corporate teams in the region which will culminate with the final on October 15. As per the rules of this fast-paced game, each participating team should comprise of six players along with two substitutes. They will also be provided with five neutral fielders from a large pool of players. Playing under the supervision of neutral umpires, the format requires each side to play a limited 5 overs, which they have to complete in 30 minutes.
