London American City in quarters

DUBAI - London American City College completed the quarter-final line-up when they beat Heriott Watt University by 96 runs in the fourth edition of the annual Maxtalent MSG Pride Cup 2010 Pan Inter-University Cricket Tournament, organized under the aegis of Sharjah Cricket Council, at the Global Refinish-Max Way cricket ground, Sharjah, according to a press release.

Electing to bat first, LACC piled up a mammoth total of 199 for 5 in 20 overs. Captain Wasim Bari notched up a hurricane 57-ball hundred, studded with four sixes and 10 hits to the fence. Bari, who was later named man-of-the-match, on his way to cracking the tournament’s first hundred, got good support from Nawaz Khan (29 not out) and Rohan Mustafa (27). Sohaib (2/21), Deep (1/31) and Rahul (1/37) were the wicket-taker bowlers for Heriott Watt.

Heriott Watt, who were looking to score their first victory after three consecutive defeat, found the going tough in the run chase and eventually were bowled out for 103. Sohail Ahmed was the top scorer with 40, Raza (19) and Nuhman (13) being the others who got into double figures. Rohan Mustafa claimed 2 for 20 while Junaid, Nawz and Imran picked a wicket each.

London American will now take on MG University in the quarter-finals to be played on Sunday at 12.30. Earlier at 9am, Manipal will play Middlesex University. On Saturday, American University, Sharjah, will slug it out with Canadian University at 9 while the Preston team will lock horns with Emirates Aviation College at 12.30pm.
