SHARJAH — Only a day after former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik’s wedding was confirmed with Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza, his form too seems to have got the better of him.

Still on cloud nine after the media has been following him non stop since last evening, Malik went berserk in the Sharjah Cricket Stadium producing a scintillating innings of 92 runs off just 25 balls that ensured Mohammedan Sporting Club thrashed Chittagong Tigers by a huge 116 runs in the PCL Twenty20 Bashundhara Cup here on Tuesday.

Chittagong Tigers would rue their decision to put Mohammedan SC to bat after winning the toss considering the way they were hammered as the latter posted a huge 261 for two in 20 overs.

It was a dream start by the openers Aiden Blizzard and Hannan Sarkar as they put on 147 runs for the opening wicket. Even after Sarkar, who scored 69 off 41 balls that included eight boundaries and three sixes, was out, it did little to help the Tigers cause as the arrival of Malik only added to their frustration.

Malik alongwith Blizzard added an unbeaten 112 scoring 161 runs in the last 10 overs. While Blizzard was a little cautious in his approach to make an unbeaten 86 off 53 balls that had eight boundaries and five sixes, it was Malik who stole the show.

Malik’s innings included 11 huge sixes and five boundaries as he ripped apart the Tiger bowlers.

None of the bowlers were spared with Milinda Siriwardena being the worst among the lot. He gave away 45 runs in his three overs.

In reply, the Tigers never were anywhere near the target as they lost wickets frequently chasing the mammoth total. Only Khurram Manzur provided some fireworks to score 56 off 29 balls and Mahmadullah Riad who scored 27 that included four sixes as Tigers wrapped up for 145 in 15.3 overs.

Nur Hossain and Faysal Hossain were the pick of the bowlers for the winners scalping four wickets each.

Pirates Chittagong: 154 for 6 in 20 overs (Rony Talukder 36, Alok Kapali 32, Rased Hanif 28, Jannisar Khan 25; Imran Farhat 2/21) lost to Dhaka Sports Club: 155 for 2 in 18 overs (Imran Farhat 71 n.o, Uttam Sarkar 33, Surogoto Home 31 n.o; Yasir Hamid 2/32).
