The Mumbai Indians outsmarted Kolkata in every possible department, be it batting, bowling or fielding. While batting, the old warhorses did all the damage at the top and the rest really didn't matter a bit at all.And when they came out to bowl, they struck early and removed the danger men out of their way very soon. It was only Ganguly who looked in some shape but that was never enough. Wickets kept tumbling and Kolkata was honestly never in contention in this contest. Another pathetic defeat for the Kolkata team as they slump further down in the points table. Mumbai would feel better about themselves after pouching a safe win this evening.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 95-all out (15.2 Ovs)

Excellent comeback by the Knight Riders. The way Sachin and Sanath started off, Mumbai looked pretty much on course to go past 200 easily. But, Mumbai suddenly started losing wickets in a hurry and that resulted in a drop of the run rate. But 187 is a huge score indeed. But the beauty of cricket is that it's a game of glorious uncertainties.

Nayar, one of the big hitters, is gone

Jayasuriya is gone now.

Hodge to Harbhajan, out Caught by Mendis at deep mid wicket

Shukla to Tendulkar, OUT, finally they get a wicket, Tendulkar shuffled a long way, looking to hit a full, incoming delivery into the leg side, and missed. Nonetheless what a superb innings, one of the best of this IPL

Jayasuriya reached for it and drove it through the point area for a couple, that's his 3rd IPL fifty

This is now the highest opening partnership for the Mumbai Indians beating the previous best of 96 runs between the same pair against Bangalore last year.

Jayasuriya has now overtaken Gilchrist and taken the top spot in the table of the leading six hitters in IPL. He has now got 32 while Gilchrist has 30.

Saurav Ganguly introduced very early into the attack

Mumbai Indians: The Mumbai team have looked good in the two matches played by them. After winning their first match against a strong Chennai team, the Mumbai team hoped to carry on with the momentum. However, rain played spoilsport when the game against Rajasthan was abandoned. A closely fought third match saw Mumbai lose the game to Delhi. Still placed in the bottom half of the points table, Mumbai would look at more wins in their kitty to re-establish their position in the league.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Kolkata have had a roller-coaster ride so far in the 2009 edition of the IPL. Having Lost their first game to Deccans, they won a rain-curtailed match against Punjab. An exciting ‘Super Over’ against Rajasthan saw them on the losing side and their fourth match was a rain abandoned game against Chennai where they gained a point. Having been in the news for the wrong reasons, the Kolkata team would hope for both their bowling and batting to do the talking while they hope for a turnaround of events.
