Chasing 165 to win, Mumbai Indian got a perfect start with opener Shikar Dhawan scoring a half century. But things seemed to be going out of the hands of Mumbai Indians when it lost Shikhar Dhawan and Kieron Pollard (20) in quick succession. Ravi Bopara dismissed Dhawan in the 12th over and also toot a brilliant catch at long-on off Irfan Pathan’s bowling to get rid of dangerous Pollard. But, Rajagopal Sathish (17 not out) and Saurabh Tiwary (31) ensure they took the team past the target comforrtably.

Earlier, Lasith Malinga took four wickets for 22 runs to help Mumbai bowl out Punjab for 163. Malinga took the wickets of Shaun Marsh, Irfan Pathan, Manvinder Bisla and Karan Goel to break the momentum of the Punjab.

Zaheer Khan (3-34) also took three wickets to give Malinga a perfect support. For Kings XI, Shaun Marsh (57) slammed his sixth IPL fifty to help his team post a respectable target of 164 runs. Marsh, playing his first match of the season, hit six fours and one over the ropes in his 47 balls inning.

Lasith Malinga bowled brilliantly to get rid of Marsh and Pathan (18) in consecutive deliveries of the sixteenth over to halt the Punjab run charge. Dwayne Bravo dismissed Yuvraj Singh (2) in the 12th over soon after Mahela Jayawardene (20) was run out in the previous one. Jayawardene put on a valuable 49-run third wicket partnership with Marsh before a miscommunication led to his untimely departure.

Punjab lost wicket-keeper batsman Manvinder Bisla (11) in the fifth over to Lasith Malinga after Zaheer Khan trapped Ravi Bopara (1) lbw in the second over of the match to provide Mumbai an important early breakthrough.

Earlier, Mumbai skipper Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and decided to bowl against Kings XI.
