Naeem heroics seal victory for Emirates Islamic Bank

ABU DHABI – Emirates Islamic Bank made a winning start to their campaign in the Al Hamad Contracting Trophy division one tournament comprehensive win over the sponsor’s team, thanks to a fine all-round performance from Naeem Khan.

Naeem stroked a valuable 47 and then triggered a sensational collapse by taking five wickets from eight overs to lead the bankers to a 133-run victory in Abu Dhabi’s premier competition at the Zayed Stadium over the weekend.

Khan’s 69-ball knock contained five hits to the fence and one clearing the field, and also shared a valuable 73-run stand for the sixth wicket with Amir Khan (40) for his side to post 274 for nine in the allotted 50 overs.

Al Hamad were bowled out for 141 after comfortably placed at 113 for two in 25th over.

In the other match, Mohammed Usman, slammed 107 for Tyger to emerge inners by 129 runs over the Yogi Group.

Usman was in his elements as he hit nine fours and a six, and shared a 67-run stand for the second wicket with Naeem Shaikh (43) to set the platform for the team to put on challenging 288 on the board.

Mohammed Rafi and Umair Qaseer then took seven wickets between them to bowl out Yogi for 159.

Al Hamad 141 all out in 34 overs (Kasim Butt 48, Asif Iqbal 45, Asim Khaleem 3-28, Naeem Khan 5-20).

Tyger bt Yogi Group by 129 runs. Tyger 288 all out in 49 overs (Mohammed Usman 107, Naeem Shaikh 43, Imran Khan 38, Bilal Khan 34, Jai Prakash Shetty 3-58, Razik Khan 4-30). Yogi Group 159 all out in 29.2 overs (Jai Prakash Shetty 40, Razik Khan 37, Mohammed Rafiq 4-21, Umair Qadeer 3-15).
