NMC win title

ABU DHABI — New Medical Centre (NMC) won the season-ending Abu Dhabi Cricket Council’s A Division Trophy at the Shaikh Zayed Cricket Stadium over the weekend.

Riding on a good showing from the Ijaz brothers—Atif and Asim—New Medical Centre defeated Yogi Group by seven wickets in the final.

Put into bat, Yogi Group lost wickets at regular intervals and were shot out for 169 in 43.4 overs.

Most of the batsmen got starts but could not convert it into anything big. Fiyaz Ahmed top scored with 32 from 33 balls with two boundaries and a six.

Nasir Ahmed made 27 from 46 balls with two boundaries. Captain Shiva Pagarani scored 23 from 46 balls with two boundaries and a six, while one-down batsman Swapnil Patil laboured to 20 from 42 balls with one boundary.

Atif Ijaz was the pick of the NMC bowlers, snapping up three wickets for 28, while Manjula Guruge and UAE international Saqib Ali took two wickets each.

In reply, NMC got home with 16 overs to spare. Asim Ijaz top scored with an unbeaten 74 from 102 balls with eight boundaries and a six, while Saqib Ali made 39 from 58 balls with four boundaries.

The duo came up with a partnership of 109 runs for the third wicket. Earlier, opener Indika Sampat scored 24 from 21 balls with three boundaries and a six.

Salman Faris took two wickets for 31 runs.

Arshad Ali of Arab Udupi was adjudged the Best Batsman. He scored 379 runs including two centuries.

Mohammed Tanvir, who took 15 wickets for 112 runs, won the Best Bowler award.

Yogi Group’s Fiyaz Ahmed was adjudged the Man of the Tournament. He scored 263 runs and took 16 wickets.
